Since the summer of 2023 I have been working on a new series of works of art entitled “La Fête Galante”.
I recently completed the fifth collage work in this series.
Fete galante paintings were an important part of the rococo art period, in the French 18th century.
💃🕺🏻💕
The lush outdoor environments of fête galante paintings were often borrowed from paintings from previous periods.
Venetian paintings from the 16th century and Dutch paintings from the 17th century were particularly popular for this.

Mon petit poney 🐴🎠🧲

I was working on a nice assignment at the time. An interested collector wanted to buy three works of art from me. When I read the book “Les trois musquetaires” (The Three Musketeers), 1844, by the French writer Alexandre Dumas I felt that I had an interesting story. I especially found their famous motto: “One for all and all for one” catchy. Beautifully drawn illustrations by Maurice Leloir provided a good picture of the times. The three musketeers usually traveled by horse. Here I drew another musketeer on horseback, in nice bright colors. I gave the work a subtitle in French: “Mon petit poney”.

Since summer 2023 I take life a little lighter … ☺️ and worked on a new series of collage works entitled “La Fête Galante”.
The Fête Galante paintings were a genre within the French 18th century rococo period of art.
I especially like Watteau’s mixing of theater life with real life, so that the boundary between the two is completely blurred.
The lightness of being, the relaxed atmosphere, the costumes and the appreciation for intimacy: I find it all very appealing and tried to catch this joie de vivre, this lifestyle of la vie en rose in my latest art.🌹😘

Recently Disturbed Earth, 1995, h 91,4 x w 122 x d 7 cm (h 36 x w 48 x d 2.8 inch), collage of adhesive film on wood panel

This is an older work of art that I made based on photos from the media, a method that I regularly use.

The title of the work is in part a reference to the abilities of modern screen and surveillance technologies to uncover – via satellite, drone and other screening processes – places and locations where earthly ground might indicate evidence of being significantly tampered with by human actions in a way that the technologically unaided human eye cannot easily detect. The detection of disturbed earth is a sign that something is not as it should be, that a systemic effort has been made to disrupt and then disguise the disruption.

The earth is disturbed in multiple ways: by the hidden mass graves, by the still non-deactivated minefields, as well as by the unregulated cutting down of the trees – a process of mass deforestation that jeopardises the natural ecosystem, as is the case in many parts of the world.
