Fete galante paintings are an important part of the rococo period of art.
Since summer 2023 I take life a little lighter …

and worked on a new series of collage works entitled “La Fete Galante”.
The Fete Galante paintings were a genre within the French 18th century rococo period of art.
I especially like Antoine Watteau’s (1684-1721) mixing of theater life with real life. In a way that the boundary between the two is completely blurred.
The lightness of being, the relaxed atmosphere, the costumes and the appreciation for intimacy: I find it all very appealing and tried to catch this joie de vivre, this lifestyle of la vie en rose in my latest art.🌹😘

Mezzetino, tuning his guitar while dressed in a Van Dyck civil war costume.
Mezzetino was a comedy character, based on Harlequin but with his own distinctive costume, who was introduced for the first time by the Théâtre italien de Paris actor Angelo Costantini on October 16, 1683. Constantini’s expressive face allowed him to portray the role without a mask, a tradition kept alive by all successive Mezzetinos. That novelty attracted Watteau, who featured Mezzetino in several of his works.

I depict the series La Fete Galante at a time when there is a lot of unrest in the world. Through the treatment of the theme, I express the wish for more respect, grace, courtesy and peace-lovingness, in small and large. By focusing on dance as art in movement and lightness of being and placing it in the spotlight, I try to visually push the darkness into the background. In reality, I actually increase the contrast, which creates drama and reveals the vulnerability of this cosplay コスプレ.

My collage artwork on light box, Family Constellation, 2021, was published at the end of May 2024 in the hundredth edition of the Netherlands’ Nobility book. The ‘Red Book’ was first published in 1903. The booklet provides an overview of the genealogies of all Dutch noble families.
